The Alliance Party has announced its ten candidates who will seek to be elected in the forthcoming Local Council on 22nd May.

Reflecting the Alliance Party's diversity of membership, the party is fielding candidates from across the community with professional backgrounds including; the Royal Air Force, Medicine, Software Engineering, Telecoms, the Library Service, Pharmacy and Law.

Alliance Party Councillor, Noel Williams, has called for Carrickfergus Borough Council to hold an independent Enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the sinking of the vessel 'Southards', which was allegedly sold and removed from Carrickfergus Harbour's Slipway and subsequently sank en route to Scotland.

Cllr Williams, who has been one of the loudest voices calling for the removal of the boat, which was blocking the slipway for other users, said: "I am shocked that it has emerged that the vessel was apparently disposed of without the knowledge of the members of the Maritime Sub Committee or Council. I am seeking a full, externally led, investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boats disposal.

The Alliance Party's Knockagh Councillor, Noel Williams, is demanding that traffic alleviation measures are put in place at the top of the Station Road, Greenisland, whilst the lower junction is closed for the construction of a roundabout between the 12th and 27th of April.

Cllr Williams is alarmed that the planned road works are to go ahead for such a long duration, apparently without appropriate traffic alleviation measures being put in place.

The junction at the bottom of the Station Road had been closed previously this year, for two days, due to the A2 upgrade work, leading to a large build-up of traffic and frustration for local residents.
